Credentialed Educator

Reading Teacher & Tutor

  • Objective

My overall goal in reading is to promote the development of lifelong readers who read for both knowledge and pleasure. My desire is for my students to become independent learners who are intrinsically motivated to discover and enlarge their frameworks of knowledge.

  • About me

I am most passionate about helping the lives of others. I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature. I understand how a child’s early experiences in school can help to shape their lives: a positive experience in school, with the help of a skilled and thoughtful teacher, promotes a child’s feeling of confidence within the world.

Over the past few years working as an elementary reading teacher with first, second, and third graders in a Montessori setting, my approach to teaching has shifted from a rigid emphasis on state standards to a more holistic approach to education that recognizes the importance of educating the “whole” child. My evolving ideas have been influenced by Dr. Maria Montessori’s philosophy that an educator’s job is to facilitate “the development of the whole child: intellectual, physical, social, emotional, spiritual.” My mission as an educator is to foster the development of academically prepared, socially responsible individuals, who will be lifelong learners and problem solvers.

I consider myself not only a teacher, but also a lifelong learner who will continue to evolve over time though experience, reflection, and the pursuit of new information.
